Hi
Welcome to my new website and blog.
It’s been a busy and ‘interesting’ year so far.
The economic trials and tribulations have had a major effect on funding for ‘live performances’. A number of festivals have been cancelled and many have been abbreviated. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that live interactive music keeps on growing, building and expanding thanks to the mind and soul of creative musicians everywhere. We are playing for smaller audiences in smaller venues, which fosters more interaction, subtly and intensity for both the performer and the audience.
Last weekend I played an interesting gig with a ‘percussion ensemble’ – vibes, congas (Richie Flores) and piano (Bill O’Connell) at a club in New York – Kitano. I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about this group.
The next gigs take me to Louisville where I’m playing the music from the latest CJP CD – Caribbean Jazz Project/Afro Bop Alliance with the University of Louisville Big Band under the direction of John La Barbera from the La Barbera jazz dynasty - three brothers who are all great jazz players – John (trombone), Pat (tenor) and Joe (drums).
I’ll also be playing a couple of nights at the Seelbach Jazz Club in Louisville with my friend and fellow vibist – Dick Sisto. During the day I’ll be doing a clinic at Moorehead State.
That’s all for now from the blogosphere. Stay in touch.
